New releases this week include the BBC series Mongrels and a nice selection of Sons of Anarchy: There are no TV-series related Blu-rays released in the UK this week.  Amazon.co.uk now has the upcoming Sky1 series An Idiot Abroad (a.k.a. “Karl Pilkington’s An Idiot Abroad” and formerly known as “Karl Pilkington’s Seven Wonders Of The World”) up for pre-order on Blu-ray, with a November 15th release date and at a price of £17.99 (£24.99 RRP). “Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant are outraged that Karl has written off the Seven Wonders claiming they’re all “a bit s**t” having never seen any of them with his own eyes. …read more  About a month ago the Blu-ray release of the second season of Dollhouse was announced in the US. Now FOX Home Entertainment has revealed that Dollhouse – The Complete Season Two will be released on BD in the UK as well, along with Dollhouse – The Complete Collection containing both seasons of the short-lived series. The title is set to be released on October 11 with a RRP of £79.99, but it is available for pre-order from Amazon.co.uk at £59.99. “When Earth’s moon is blasted out of orbit by a series of spectacular nuclear explosions the greatest adventure mankind has ever known begins for 311 men and women on Moonbase Alpha. Each episode is a fight for survival encountering bizarre life forms, unfathomed civilizations, hostile enviroments and mystic phenomena.” Space: 1999 – The Complete First Series has been digitally restored from the best available elements and are presented in its original 4:3 aspect ratio. The release will include all 24 season one episodes alongside a wealth of special features: music-only tracks, extensive documentaries and 5.1 mixes of the original triple-track audio tapes. Any further details will be posted as they are announced.  It has been the source of much annoyance that the US releases of the popular series Dexter have been region locked, but finally it seems that they are coming to the UK as well, at least the newest season anyway. Amazon.co.uk now has Dexter – The Fourth Season up for pre-order with a November 29th release date. The 3-disc set is currently being sold by Amazon at £37.49 (a saving of 25% compared to the £49.99 RRP). …read more  As expected Amazon.co.uk now lists Lost – The Complete Collection as available for pre-order, with a September 13 release date (the same release date as the sixth and final season). Unfortunately it comes with an extremely high price tag – £270.69 (£360.99 RRP) – which is quite a bit more than if you buy the six seasons seperately. There is still no word on what, if any, extra stuff makes this release so expensive, but it has to be pretty spectacular to justify the price. Hopefully the price will come down before release date. Two new TV releases are out on Blu-ray in the UK this week – Doctor Who – Series 5, Volume 3 and Persuasion – The Complete Series. …read more |
